ABOUT US
We are explorers, game crafters and community architects based in Vancouver, BC. We built Convenience-AE because we believed social entertainment could be better — slower, warmer and genuinely free.
❋ OUR STORY
BORN AROUND A CAMPFIRE IN BANFF
It started in 2019 on a September camping trip in Banff National Park. Four friends — a UX designer, a game developer, a community manager and a wilderness guide — were stuck in a tent during a downpour, passing a phone back and forth playing social casino games. They all agreed: the games were fun, but the experience felt hollow, rushed and oddly stressful for something called entertainment.
They spent the next two years building a platform that kept the thrill of the slots but dressed it in the unhurried warmth of the outdoors. They hired wilderness photographers, commissioned vintage illustrators, and brought on Canadian composers to build an original ambient soundtrack. The result was Convenience-AE, launched from a converted warehouse space in East Vancouver in early 2021.
Today, Convenience-AE hosts thousands of active players across Canada, all enjoying free social casino entertainment with zero financial pressure. The campfire has grown, but the spirit hasn't changed: play freely, connect genuinely, and always leave the forest better than you found it.
We remain independently owned, proudly Canadian, and permanently committed to responsible social play. No real money, no pressure, no compromise on quality. That's our trail, and we intend to walk it a long while.
OUR VALUES
HONESTY FIRST
We believe in complete transparency. Our terms are written in plain language, our responsible-play tools are prominent and easy to use, and we never obscure information that matters to you. If something changes, we tell you first.
COMMUNITY OVER METRICS
We don't optimize for maximum engagement at any cost. We build features that feel good, that bring people together, and that respect your time. Our success metric is player satisfaction, not session length. The campfire should always feel like a choice, never a trap.
CRAFT OVER SPEED
Every slot we add to the lobby is evaluated for gameplay quality, visual coherence with our design system, and alignment with our wilderness philosophy. We release fewer games, but every one of them belongs. The trail is curated, not crowded.
THE BASECAMP TEAM
MARCUS RIDGEWAY
Co-Founder & Creative Director
Former wilderness guide turned UX designer, Marcus brings the outside world into every pixel. He spent a decade leading backcountry expeditions in the Rockies before discovering his love for digital design. He now ensures that every interface decision at Convenience-AE feels as intuitive as reading a trail.
SOPHIE LAFLEUR
Co-Founder & Head of Engineering
Montreal-born and Vancouver-settled, Sophie built her first slot simulator at 17 for a school fair. Two computer science degrees and a decade in gaming tech later, she leads the engineering that makes Convenience-AE's games feel responsive, fair and genuinely fun. Her obsession: zero-latency spin mechanics.
DEREK THORNE
Head of Community
Derek grew up attending small-town folk festivals in rural Ontario, which shaped his belief that community is the most powerful force in entertainment. He manages the Campfire Gallery, runs player events and has personally replied to more than 12,000 support messages since launch.
NINA PARK
Head of Responsible Play
Nina joined Convenience-AE from a decade working in addiction counselling and public health advocacy in BC. She built our responsible play framework from the ground up, ensuring that every feature prioritises player wellbeing. Her guiding principle: fun should always be a choice you feel good about making.
